Amanda Roberts
Instructor
Amanda loves to dance! The freedom to express herself through music is powerful and the universality of dance is inspirational. However, in 1997, while living and working in Australia Amanda discovered the marvelous rhythm of Salsa and her affinity for this style of music and dance. Shortly thereafter she began her journey of extensive training and studied Salsa at Toronto’s dance schools as well as with world-renowned instructors at international congresses; eventually expanding her repertoire to include: Casino Rueda, Bachata, Cha Cha Cha, Merengue, Cumbia and Latin Hustle.
It was only a matter of time before Amanda realized her love for performing, as she comes from a long line of people who love the stage (her grandmother was an opera singer and her mother and sister are both actresses). Over the years, Amanda has performed at numerous events and some of her favourites include: representing Salsa Team Canada at the Puerto Rico Salsa Congress (2003), dancing in Sarah Slean’s music video Lucky Me with City Dance Corps (2004) and performing at the Montreal Salsa Convention (2009) and the Canada Salsa Congress (2004, 2008, 2009 & 2011).
A few years ago, under the direction of Jennifer Aucoin, Amanda trained to be a Steps dance instructor and she loves sharing her passion for dance with others. As an instructor, her goal is to create an inclusive, fun and friendly learning environment where everyone is respected and feels free to learn. For Amanda, the real sense of fulfillment comes from watching students discover their own ability; witnessing them make the transition from counting salsa steps to feeling the music and inhabiting the rhythms.
Today, Amanda is very proud to be a part of the talented and dedicated team of staff instructors at Steps Dance Studio; a diverse and determined group of dancers who inspire and motivate her on a weekly basis.
Whether you are exploring the world of dance for the very first time; hoping to improve your social dancing skills or have dreams of performing one day, Amanda looks forward to meeting you on the dance floor!
"We should consider every day lost on which we have not danced at least once."
— Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche
